Positive Nature's Summer Program
In keeping with the exploration and social skill development goals, summer campers have the opportunity to experience many new things. They take swimming lessons, learn to play tennis, ride bicycles, and play several sports. They make murals, masks, clay sculptures, and paintings. They hike in areas from the C&O Canal to the Shenadoah Valley. They enjoy thrilling days at Six Flags America, Water Country USA, and Kings Dominion. They go canoeing, rafting, and tubing. They discover beaches on the Eastern Shore and camp out over night in the mountains and on the beaches. PNI campers do things they would never do anywhere else with trained counselors in a student: staff ratio of 5:1.
The Positive Nature Summer Camp is an eight-week program structured so as to maximize participants' opportunity to express themselves through art, music, recreation, competition, teamwork, games, activities and outings. Participants are assigned to groups by age so as to focus on age-appropriate social skills and peer development, but they also interact with students of all ages in activities throughout the week. Students each have individual behavior plans for the summer and all activities are designed and implemented with a therapeutic focus, but the main goal for all is exploration and fun.
